Sports Park for Amateur Recreation in King County

Coming soon to South King County!
**Project Update**  We have broken ground!

Phase 1 clearing and grading permit has been approved and ground breaking took place on June 30, 2008

Project Overview

A first of its kind sports venue for rugby and many other amateur sports, SPARK is designed as a completely self-sustaining year-round sports tournament facility. The impetus behind SPARK is the dearth of active recreation outdoor facilities, especially for amateur organized sports and youth participants.

The 38-acre sight includes custom features tailored to each unique sport, such as rugby, lacrosse, field hockey, ultimate disk sports, and soccer. The facility staff will work with leagues to ensure that the multipurpose fields are correctly laid out to meet regulation sizes and shapes.

In addition to 33,000 square yards of environmentally friendly, world-class playing surface and state-of-the-art lighting systems, SPARK will offer safe and close-up seating for spectators, restroom facilities, and a ~10,000 square foot European-style field house featuring changing rooms, a meeting hall, viewing decks and event facilities to host banquets and promotional events.

How We'll Get There

The $14 million facility, located on Hwy 18 between Auburn and Covington in South King County, will be funded through a combination of non-profit financing tools, government grants and a private fundraising capital campaign that includes sponsorship opportunities for donors, corporations, and local small businesses.

Construction is slated to begin Summer 2008. It is anticipated that the complex will be pre-scheduled to 70% of its capacity before construction is complete, since numerous usage agreements are already in process. SPARK enthusiasts can look forward to the play fields being fully operational by Fall 2010.
